“Skyscapes”
In 2008 I decided to photograph the sunrise when I woke each day. Most often my view was from my balcony in Washington, D.C. My goal was to try to photograph the sun before it broke free from the horizon. While taking the sunrise photos I noticed there were mornings when jet contrails were marking the highways in the sky and on some mornings every cloud in the sky was that of a jet contrail. I recalled reading about how the grounding of planes immediately after September 11th caused a noticeable difference in the weather conditions around the country. That led to my journey to produce the start of a series of watercolors that I call skyscapes which depict contrails in the sky left by air traffic.
